The CSR Times conferred Institute for Integrated Rural Development with the “Best NGO in India in Livelihood" award during the National Conference (2018) of CSR Times in New Delhi. IIRD was bestowed with this honour for its efforts to empower rural women of Jharkhand, belonging to economically weaker section, by providing them training in making biodegradable leaf plates or "Pattals"

IIRD, in collaboration with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), launched this project with providing a holistic solution to these women's issues as the training in Pattal-making proved to be a boon for them. The women were able to find a stable source of income to support themselves and also provide for their families. Additionally, these pattals are a better alternative to plastic or other materials that are hazardous not only to the environment but also the animals. Therefore, this training efficaciously served the dual purpose of empowering the women and playing a small part towards the protection of environment.

IIRD's main focus has been holistic development, especially of rural regions, and we understand that development cannot be achieved in isolation i.e. both women and men are required to play an essential role in ushering prosperity at all the levels. Therefore, IIRD has always made it a point to cultivate an environment where our employees have ample facilities and equal opportunities, irrespective of their gender, to succeed in life. This fact was did not escape the attention of Global Compact Network India (GCNI), New Delhi, as the organisation awarded IIRD with the "Innovative Best Practices Awards, 2019, for ‘Women at Workplace’" in the category of Non-Government Organisation (NGO) sector. IIRD's efforts in promoting the idea of Gender Equality under the United Nations' Goal Number 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) was the key factor in winning this prestigious award.

The award ceremony was held on March 1 at TC Sheraton Hotel, Saket, in New Delhi, with Dr L.C. Sharma (the Managing Director of IIRD), Mrs Sushma Sharma (Director), Ms Mehreen Iqbal(CEO of Mission RIEV), Mrs Reeta Verma with Brig V.K. Khanna and RK Singh, in attendance, to accept the award.
